Rates are cheaper and you can book just about everything using your Hughes Net from home – adventure awaits! Here are some suggestions for winter activities
Hastings: Downtown Hastings, NE is one of the coolest small towns in the country and we bet you’ve never even heard of it! There are tons of dining and shopping options as well as places to get out of the cold – your family’s going to love it.
Ridge Road Drive: If you prefer the warn air inside the car take a trip down the Ridge Road – better known as the Bohemian Alps. It’s picturesque even in the winter and you can set up base camp in Seward, NE.
Cedar Hills Vineyard: Just because the grapes aren’t blooming doesn’t mean you can’t taste some incredible vintages from Nebraska’s premiere wine region. Start at Cedar Hills in Ravenna and head West – there are dozens of wineries along the way and while you’re out there don’t forget to sample local delicacy, ice wine!

When you visit Nebraska you will find museums galore, all in north central Nebraska. You probably will not be able to visit them all but there are some that are on the don’t miss list. They will delight you and you will learn a lot about the area and the people that lived there during the times. You will see antiques, clothing styles and the type of stores that they had. These museums are the Sandhills Museum, The Custer County Historical Museum and the Grant County Museum.

Sandhills Museum

If you are into autos, the exhibit of antique automobiles will not disappoint. There are many antiques in this museum. There are antique firearms, tools and farm machinery. One of the more fascinating displays is the moonshine still and the calf with two heads and five legs. Have you ever seen a calf with two heads and five legs?

The Custer County Historical Museum

What makes this museum interesting is there is a research library, where you can spend some time looking up anything you want to know. They have many public records accessible for you to peruse through. They also display a general store and a drug store from the 19th century.

Grant County Museum

What makes the Grant County Museum stand out is the genealogy information that you can seek out. There is a lot of history displayed. Also, there is the most unique barbed wire collection. How many times do you see that? If you are a John Wayne fan, the museum exhibits his saddle from the movie True Grit.

So if you are looking for something to do when you visit North Central Nebraska make sure to check out these and the many other museums that are available for your enjoyment. You will certainly be glad you did.

The Niobrara River has long been a great place in North Central Nebraska to go rafting. Because of the milder rapids, beginners and moderate rapid riders, frequent here. There are several areas in this river that are calmer, which provides to be a great training experience. By continuing on the river, one can get into more turbulent waters for an exciting thrill.

This river has long been an attraction for those who love to canoe, or use a kayak on the water. Many take along a waterproof camera because of the breathtaking sites along the way. One will experience beautiful waterfalls, wildlife and spectacular foliage. The birds tend to be ample in this area as well. North Central Nebraska is known for its beauty, and this area is no exception. Others try more turbulent waters such of the Snake River, but it is the River Niobrara that will steal their heart. The part near the river also rents sporting equipment such as kayaks, so that one does not have to own their own equipment. You will need a life jacket and probably a wet suit for wadding in the fabulous waters. No wonder so many people come here each year just for the white water experience.
